Blank Slate Studio (“we”, “our”, or “us”) respects your privacy. Our philosophy is simple: Your data belongs to you. We built Dawn (“the App”) as a local-first utility. We do not create user accounts, we do not run servers, and we do not sell your data.
1. Data Collection & Storage
Dawn operates on a Local-First basis. All alarm schedules, tasks, settings, and statistics are stored locally on your device using Apple's secure storage technologies (UserDefaults and SwiftData).
- —We do not have access to your personal data.
- —We do not track your location.
- —We do not upload your data to any cloud servers managed by us.
2. Device Permissions
To function as an alarm clock, Dawn requires access to specific sensors on your device. This data is processed instantly on-device and is never saved, recorded, or transmitted.
Notifications
Used strictly to ring alarms and send safety reminders (e.g., “Keep Dawn Open”).
Microphone
Used only during the “Exhale” task to detect wind noise/breath levels. We do not record or analyze speech.
Camera
Used only during the “Scan” task to detect barcodes/objects. No video feed is ever saved.
Motion & Fitness
Used only during “Flow” (Squats), “Walk” (Steps), and “Wake” (Shake) tasks to count movement.
3. TrueDepth API (Face Tracking) Disclosure
Dawn uses the Apple TrueDepth API (ARKit) for the “Mimic” (Face Match) task.
What data is collected?
We access real-time depth mapping of your facial features (facial positioning and muscle movements).
How is it used?
This data is used solely to verify that you are performing the required facial expression (e.g., smiling, winking) to dismiss the alarm.
Data Storage
This data is processed 100% on-device in real-time. It is never recorded, stored, shared with third parties, or uploaded to any server. The data is discarded the instant the task is completed.
4. Third-Party Services
We use minimal third-party services to facilitate app functionality:
Apple
Apple collects anonymous, aggregate usage data (e.g., crash reports, installation counts) if you have opted-in to share analytics with developers in your iOS settings.
